What your child will learn
Evaluate incoming gaming friend requests by analyzing profile age, account age, mutual contacts, and message content to identify grooming and scam patterns
Identify manipulation tactics in in-game trades and fake currency offers including urgency, impersonation, off-platform links, and account-info requests
Apply the correct response — mute, report, block, tell a trusted adult — when a stranger in voice chat pushes for personal information, photos, or off-platform contact
Explain why gaming platforms are a high-risk environment for social engineering and account theft targeting younger players
How this mission works
A 3-scene interactive lab targeting the gaming platform threats kids encounter every day. Scene 1: 6 incoming friend requests arrive on a gaming platform — profile photos, account ages, mutual server counts, and opening messages included. Approve or deny each and read the per-request explanation of the predator or scam tell. Scene 2: 5 trade windows and "free V-Bucks/Robux" offers appear mid-game. For each, accept or reject and identify the manipulation pattern — urgency, fake moderator, account-info request, or off-platform link. Scene 3: 4 voice and DM situations where a stranger escalates toward personal info, photos, or a move off-platform. Pick the right response: mute, report, block, or tell a trusted adult.
What students actually encounter
"Hey! I'm the tournament mod. Your prize Robux got flagged. DM me your login and we'll release it in 10 minutes or it expires." — Accept or reject this trade?
New friend request: Account created 3 days ago. No mutual servers. Profile says "14yo gamer." First message: "Hey you're really good. What school do you go to?" — Approve or deny?
Voice chat: "You sound cool. What's your real name? We should FaceTime." — Mute, report, block, or tell an adult?
Cipher is with them the whole way
When a student gets stuck on Gaming Safety Defender, Cipher appears with a mission-specific nudge — no spoilers, just a hint toward the right thinking. Make a wrong choice, and Cipher explains the real-world consequence. Finish the mission, and Cipher generates a personalized performance debrief based on exactly how the student played it.
ISTE alignment
Students cultivate safe, legal, and ethical digital behaviors in online gaming environments, manage their digital identity and reputation, and demonstrate empowered learning by recognizing manipulation before it succeeds.
