What your child will learn
Classify video clips as synthetic/real/unverified using artifact analysis and contextual clues
Identify AI voice clone patterns in audio scenarios and apply call-back verification
Verify screenshots and social media posts for fabrication using reverse search and metadata reasoning
How this mission works
A 3-scene interactive lab on synthetic media detection. Scene 1: 6 video clips — real, AI-generated deepfake, or unverified? Examine lip-sync, blink rate, lighting, and ear artifacts to classify each. Scene 2: 5 audio scenarios — real voice or AI voice clone? Build the analytical toolkit to distinguish them. Scene 3: 6 social media screenshots — verify or flag as fabricated using the SIFT protocol (Stop, Investigate, Find better coverage, Trace claims, Back up).
What students actually encounter
A video shows a CEO announcing a company bankruptcy — but the jaw doesn move correctly with longer words. Real or deepfake?
An audio clip says a school shooting is happening two blocks away. Real emergency or AI voice clone?
A screenshot of a tweet from a famous athlete. Is it real or fabricated?
Cipher is with them the whole way
When a student gets stuck on Synthetic Media Detective, Cipher appears with a mission-specific nudge — no spoilers, just a hint toward the right thinking. Make a wrong choice, and Cipher explains the real-world consequence. Finish the mission, and Cipher generates a personalized performance debrief based on exactly how the student played it.
