What your child will learn
Explain what an AI hallucination is and why it happens
Recognize the signs that an AI response might be fabricated
Apply cross-check strategies to verify AI-generated information
How this mission works
Sensei Byte has been telling students about the "Cyber Codex" — a legendary code hidden in a specific US state. But Sensei Byte is making it up. Students must figure out how to catch an AI in a hallucination, learn why it happens, and develop a system for verifying AI facts using real sources. Includes 5 decision points where students must judge whether Sensei Byte is telling the truth or confabulating.
What students actually encounter
AI says the first computer virus was created in 1984 — how can you verify that?
An AI chatbot tells you a famous person said something shocking. Do you share it?
Cipher is with them the whole way
When a student gets stuck on The Hallucination Hunter, Cipher appears with a mission-specific nudge — no spoilers, just a hint toward the right thinking. Make a wrong choice, and Cipher explains the real-world consequence. Finish the mission, and Cipher generates a personalized performance debrief based on exactly how the student played it.
ISTE alignment
Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools and evaluate the credibility of sources encountered in AI-generated content.
