What your child will learn
Explain what a deepfake is and how AI generates fake video and audio
Recognize the real-world harm that deepfakes can cause to people and trust
Apply the "Would this hurt?" test before creating or sharing AI-generated media
How this mission works
Students enter the "Deepfake Lab" where they see, from the creator side, how easy it is to put anyone into a fake video. The twist: Sensei Byte shows them the damage it causes — fake news, impersonation, bullying. Students navigate 5 decision points where classmates are tempted to create or share deepfakes. The mission teaches the ethical line: creating deepfakes of real people without consent is harmful, even if it "seems funny."
What students actually encounter
A classmate uses a free AI tool to put the principal in a fake viral video. Is that okay to share?
Your friend sends you a "celebrity deepfake" video that looks real — do you share it?
Cipher is with them the whole way
When a student gets stuck on The Deepfake Creator, Cipher appears with a mission-specific nudge — no spoilers, just a hint toward the right thinking. Make a wrong choice, and Cipher explains the real-world consequence. Finish the mission, and Cipher generates a personalized performance debrief based on exactly how the student played it.
ISTE alignment
Students cultivate and manage their digital identity and demonstrate an understanding of the rights and obligations of using and sharing AI-generated content.
