What your child will learn
Understand that data typed into AI tools may be stored or used for training
Identify what types of personal information should not be shared with AI chatbots
Apply the Data Shield Checklist before using any AI tool
How this mission works
Students work through 5 scenarios where classmates accidentally share too much with AI tools. Each decision point tests their ability to apply the Data Shield Protocol: what to keep out, what to keep in, and what to do if they shared too much. Includes a printable "Data Shield Checklist" badge item. Sensei Byte teaches the protocol using a "digital armor" metaphor that resonates with the anime framing.
What students actually encounter
A classmate asks the school AI chatbot for help writing an essay about their family. Should they include their real name?
You want to use an AI tool to draft a message to a friend. The AI asks for your email address first — is that okay?
Cipher is with them the whole way
When a student gets stuck on Data Shield Protocol, Cipher appears with a mission-specific nudge — no spoilers, just a hint toward the right thinking. Make a wrong choice, and Cipher explains the real-world consequence. Finish the mission, and Cipher generates a personalized performance debrief based on exactly how the student played it.
ISTE alignment
Students engage in positive, safe, legal, and ethical behavior and manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security when using AI tools.
