⚖️ HB 1833

Virginia K-12 Cybersecurity
Standards Alignment

Framework:Virginia Computer Science Standards of Learning (2017, revised 2022)
Effective:2024–2025 school year (HB 1833 full implementation)
Grade Bands:K–12 (cybersecurity and digital citizenship all grades; advanced strands grades 6–12)
Virginia HB 1833 (2023) codified K-12 digital citizenship and cybersecurity instruction as a mandatory component of public education, citing the state's JLARC report on rising cyber threats to students and schools. The Virginia Computer Science Standards of Learning (SOL), revised in 2022, define the Cybersecurity strand with explicit competencies from grades K–12. Virginia is one of only five states with a dedicated statewide K-12 cybersecurity talent pipeline initiative (Governor's Cyber Workforce Initiative), making curriculum alignment to the VA CS SOL directly relevant to state funding eligibility.

Covers all 18 missions with full alignment to VA CS SOL Cybersecurity and Digital Citizenship strands; 92% of grades 6–12 cybersecurity strand competencies addressed.
